The Greek Cathedral in Oakland is expanding, here is the new rotunda dome
After a long day of work I was exhausted and not in the mood to cook dinner. What was my solution? Taking my son to the Greek Festival at the Ascension Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Oakland, where we were able to hear great music, eat Gyro's, see familiar faces, all while being about a mile away from home.

Every year I visit the San Francisco Decorator's Showcase with my dear friend, Diana. We like to see the new trends and the magnfiscient historic home that has been transformed by the country's best designer's work. This year I was taken by a room that had ombre walls. (Definition: use ombre shadow, shade; darkness, obscurity.) The walls of this particular room were dark blue at the top where the wall meets the ceiling and it shaded down gradually until the bottom of the walls were white. I've seen ombre dresses and shoes, but I have never seen ombre walls. There was a "women's suite" that had a color palette of camel, sky blue and fuchsia, the combination was fantastic. Here at the Showcase House you see side tables, art and light fixtures up close that you see in magazines such as Metropolitan Home, Elle Decor and more.
For most of us, we do not have the budget to hire a designer for our Oakland or Berkeley homes, but go to the Showcase House to get ideas and implement one or two into your house. The showcase house runs through 5/26/08.

Every morning after I drop my kids off at school, I make my way to Peet's Coffee in Montclair Village. I frequently pass the intersection of Mountain Blvd. and LaSalle, and I have never witnessed any problems. Apparently there were two reported accidents in this intersection, one in the 1970's and one last fall, so a stoplight is in the works for this intersection. I would like to know what you think. Do you think this will create a congested Montclair Village? Do you think the possible backed-up traffic will deter people from patronizing the surround businesses? Do you think that drivers will speed in downtown Montclair to catch green or yellow lights? Leave a comment on my blog! This year take the time to explore the Oakland and Berkeley area. When you purchase a home, you are not only buying the house, you are also buying the neighborhood and city. Making my Bay Area destination list is Indian Rock Park in Berkeley. This was actually donated to the City of Berkeley by Mason McDuffie in 1917. Whether you want to rock climb or watch unparalleled views of the San Francisco Bay this is a must see.

This was a wonderful holiday season for me! My husband took the week of Christmas off of work and we did practically nothing! Our kids had a relaxing Christmas and we still made time for others. This past Christmas two of my girlfriends and their children went to Target and purchased gifts for families with children at Children's Hospital Oakland. We usually exchange gifts with each other, but this year we decide to give to others instead.
We took the kids out for burgers after the shopping and the kids are pictured above.

I have always enjoyed watching the Warriors play basketball... the Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Chris Moullen days to the to now. Last night the proprietors of Tamarindo, B Restaurant, Air, Jessos, Levande East, Drift, Mignonne closed the streets between 8th and 10th on Washington. They celebrated the NEW Old Oakland! This area is now becoming the second "Gourmet Ghetto" of Oakland. As a foodie and Oakland girl I am thrilled to see quality restaurants and shops take root. Last night folks came to honor the neighborhood, enjoy food, drinks and live Cuban music.
Tamarindo, B Restaurant, Air Lounge, Levende East and Jesso's Seafood have put together what will prove to be a party to remember. There will be a a huge outdoor bar featuring Skyy Vodka Cocktails, Bacardi Mojitos and Trumer Pilsner.
Music will be provided by Fito Reinoso http://www.latinpulsemusic.com/artists/show/24. Fito and his ten piece Cuban New-Wave Band will be performing from 5:30-9:00. If you love to salsa our just love to hang out and enjoy the sun, be sure to come down on Thursday. If you are taking bart simply get off at the 12Street Oakland Stop and walk down two and a half blocks to 9th.

I just realized that I didn't post this earlier. As a Sephora shopper I was invited to the grand opening of the Emeryville location. (It opened July 5th) My girlfriend Asha and I took our daughters for the ribbon cutting and grand opening party. There were exquisite chocolates from Cocoabella Chocolates, (San Francisco) a DJ, and extra staff available to answer questions and give makeovers.
It was the ultimate girl night!

Mark your calendars for the Urban Living Tour, benefitting Rebuilding Together Oakland. Sunday September 15th from 11 am - 5 pm. The tour will start at the Historic Oakland Train Station. The tour promises to celebrate the East Bay's unique urban fabric.
I searched for more information without luck, but the event sounds tempting and it is for a good cause. 100% of the proceeds will go to Rebuilding Together Oakland. Rebuilding Together Oakland (RTO) rehabilitates the homes of low-income elderly and disabled homeowners, so they may live in safety, comfort and independence.
